Musical Notes about the Wind River Chimes Elements Collection Quartet:

Between the larger and smaller Elements Collection Quartets, there are some subtle musical differences. If you were to line up the pitches of both quartets from lowest to highest, a musical theorist could make a case for the overall scale sounding modal — not strictly major or minor. For the large quartet, the scale could suggest the Phrygian mode, and for the small quartet, the scale could suggest the Dorian mode.

Of the four chimes, the Fire chime harmony is the most unconventional. In music, we call these “non-chord tones,” so a discerning ear could pick out these pitches within the quartet.
